The more things change, the more The Napier stays the same. The Fitzroy pub has stood on the corner of Moor and Napier streets since 1866 and has seen plenty in its long history. It’s one of those rare pubs that possess a warm, inviting exterior glow most common to its legendary British counterparts.
The Napier caters to every pub goer, with its bustling front bar, its open, fire-lit pool lounge, its cosy rear dining rooms and a cool bricked courtyard for the warmer months. The front bar’s 15 taps pour independent beers. You’ll find Wolf of the Willows, Hargreaves Hill, Sailors Grave and locally brewed Noble Boy in your pint glass. The wine list is almost entirely Australian, and The Napier’s menu leans into seasonal, native ingredients. The signature here is the roo parma, a staple of the menu for years.
In an age of rapid gentrification, the Napier Hotel remains a proud bastion of true Fitzroy culture.
