Bijou is a pint-sized bottle shop and bar that threatens to spill out onto the street. The tiny spot has an old-school feel with custom library-inspired wine shelves and a name that references a long-gone 19th-century theatre. The space’s big windows and tall ceilings are what first captivated owner Ben Luzz, who’s also behind Black Kite Commune , Gin Palace , Bar Ampere.
Drinkers here can browse the shelves and choose from a wide, rotating wine selection that always includes local and international pinot noir and shiraz, alongside less common styles like garganega. All bottles are available for both drink-in and take away, while there’s a small by-the-glass list, too. Bijou also has a svelte cocktail menu headlined by its namesake (gin, sweet vermouth, chartreuse) and classics like the Old Fashioned and Sazerac.
Ensuring drinkers stay comfortably nestled, Bijou’s blackboard lists wine-friendly snacks. You might find chicken liver parfait, charcuterie boards or a confit garlic, caramelised onion and three-cheese toastie that begs to be paired with a glass of crisp white wine.
